The Resource Specialist Program

The Resource Specialist Program is a Special Education Program designed for students who have an identified disability, which significantly impacts their progress in the general education setting. These students require intense, specialized instruction in a small group setting to remediate deficit areas. This program is not a tutorial program or a program to obtain assistance with homework.

Identified needs through assessment determine the type of goals and objectives that are written on an Individualized Educational Program (IEP). There needs to be a significant discrepancy between achievement and ability, which is determined through the assessments done by the Assessment Team (consisting of the School Psychologist, Resource Specialist, and Speech Language Specialist). The School Psychologist assesses cognitive ability; the Resource Specialist assesses academic achievement, and the Speech Language Specialist assesses language.

Students may spend from 30 minutes to 49% of their day in the Resource Room.
